Hornaday Dover Preview

MASTER OF THE MONSTER: In four Dover starts, three-time Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday has never finished outside the top 10.  Hornaday recorded a victory at the Monster Mile in 2007 in route to that season’s Truck Series title.

BACK ON TOP: Hornaday and the No. 33 team find themselves back on top of the point standings for the first time since Phoenix last fall.  During his championship run in 2007, Hornaday also took over the points lead after his first win at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.  Hornaday and the No. 33 team then went on to win the race at Dover two weeks later.

JARET’S ANGELS: This weekend the No. 33 and No. 4 KHI trucks will run a special   decal in honor of Jaret’s Angels.

Jaret’s Angels is a family-and-friend support group for 10-year-old Jaret Arneson, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (often referred to as juvenile diabletes) at the age of two. All of the donations collected by Jaret’s Angels go directly to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). With more than $15,000 raised in 2009, Jaret’s Angels has reached a true milestone, collecting more than $100,000 since Jaret was diagnosed in 2000.

While KHI is racing with Jaret’s Angels on the trucks at Dover, Jaret will be leading a contingent of family and friends a short distance away at the JDRF Walk for the Cure at Washington Nationals Stadium in Washington D.C. In June, he will be among 150 kids from around the country selected to participate in the JDRF Children’s Congress, where children with diabetes tell their stories to Congress in search of support for government-backed research funding.

Notes from the Professor: Quotes from Ron Hornaday:
WHAT MAKES DOVER SO CHALLENGING?
“Dover can be tough on a driver. The two corners seem to be a different from each other. You may have a different approach going into turn one than you do going into turn three. There are two lines you can run at Dover that are both really fast.  We have had some good trucks here at KHI, had we not broken a part in the motor last year we probably would have caught Scott Speed there at the end and made it interesting and I think we’ll be good again this year at Dover.”

HOW IMPORTANT WAS LAST WEEK’S WIN TO GETTING YOUR SEASON KICK STARTED?
“After a win you always have momentum on your side.  Winning gives you the confidence to go into the next race and know that you can make it to victory lane.  I have always felt this team thrives off winning.  Our season up until Charlotte had not been bad, we have not finished outside the top-10 yet, so I would say that we kick started our season in Daytona, we are just now showing our strength.”

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 33 VFW team will bring chassis No. 16 to Dover (Del.) International Speedway.  The team is pulling this chassis out of the archives.  No.16 has recorded laps in only six races from 2007-2008.  This truck has never finished worse than fifth and last competed at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2008, recording a second-place finish.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Two weeks ago at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Hornaday and the No. 33 team traveled to victory lane for the first time in 2009.  The team was able to battle back from a lap down to come home victorious at LMS.  With the win, Hornaday assumed the points lead 84 markers ahead of Mike Skinner.  Hornaday continues to lead the series in career wins; the victory is number 40 for the 12 year veteran.
