Ron Hornaday Returns to Mesa Marin With Kevin Harvick
Bakersfield, CA –Two drivers who shaped NASCAR short track racing on the west coast return to their roots Saturday night, April 26, as Kevin Harvick and Ron Hornaday return to compete at Mesa Marin Raceway. NASCAR Winston Cup driver Kevin Harvick, a native of Bakersfield will return to Mesa Marin to compete in
the NASCAR Late Model Series event on April 26. Harvick, the 1993 track champion at Mesa Marin while still attending North High School, has gone on to claim championships in the NASCAR Busch Series, the NASCAR Winston West Series and currently sits in sixth position in the 2003 NASCAR Winston Cup standings. Harvick was also the International Race of Champions (I.R.O.C) 2002 series champ.

Hornaday, another California native from the Palmdale area, raced thousands of laps around Mesa Marin before being hired by Dale Earnhardt, Inc. to drive in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1994. Hornaday went on to become one of the kings of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, winning two championships during his tenure with the truck series. Hornaday now drives for RCR on the Busch Series and is currently second in the championship standings.

During their weekend of competition at California Speedway in Fontana, both drivers will board a plane and come to Mesa Marin in the early evening to be at the track in time to compete in the 75 lap NASCAR Late Model main event.

Last year Harvick started 29th in the Late Model field at Mesa Marin and won the 75 lap event. On the 26th, both drivers will be forced to start at the rear of the field once again as they will not make qualifying due to their schedules.

“It will be one hell of a race to front!” exclaimed Mesa Marin owner Marion Collins. “I can see it now, one of the two will get a couple of cars ahead of the other, and the sparks will start to fly.” Collins added. Brandon Miller, the 2002 NASCAR Super Late Model champ at Mesa Marin will join Harvick and Hornaday at the rear of the field as he too will miss qualifying due to racing in Fontana.

Gates open at 5:00pm, racing begins at 7:30pm. Adult general admission tickets are $10.00, and kids tickets are $5.00.For more information please call 661-366-5711 or click on-to www.mesamarin.com
