Nashville Superspeedway
this weekend. Last year, while driving
for Hendrick Motorsports, Hornaday scored
a 22nd place finish in the
spring race. In the fall, Hornaday ran as
high as third in the Carroll Racing Chevy
before being taken out in turn three by a
rookie driver. The team was unable to fix
the car and Hornaday finished 31st.
The ACDelco transporter
will unload chassis No. 010. It is the
same car that finished 14th at
Texas just two weeks ago and a car that
Hornaday just did not like. The ACDelco
team went back over the car and made
several changes to the chassis that should
make the car handle better.
This weekend’s Nashville 300 marks
Hornaday’s 90th start in the
NASCAR Busch Series. He made his first
NBS start at Nazareth Speedway on May 17,
1998, driving the No. 59 Chevrolet for ST
Motorsports. He finished 23rd
in that event after starting 43rd.
Hornaday is scheduled to make his 100th
start July 4th, 2003, at
Daytona International Speedway.
Love is in the air and wedding bells are
ringing at the Hornaday household. Ron
and Lindy Hornaday’s son Ronnie Hornaday
III will be exchanging vows on Saturday
April 19, 2003, with Cammie Williams. The
wedding will take place at the Hornaday
home in Lake Norman, N.C.
What are
your thoughts on Nashville Superspeedway?
“I am excited
about our chances this weekend. This
ACDelco team has been working their guts
out in preparing for this race. We are
bringing our Texas car here and the guys
have changed everything on the car to help
us. They promise me it will feel like a
completely different car than it was at
Texas, which is big because that car was
not much fun to drive.
“Nashville is
a cool track, but one in which you need to
hit the setup. It is not one of those
tracks where you can ride around and hope
things get better. The groove is pretty
narrow and right on the bottom. It
reminds me a little of Chicagoland
Speedway as far as the groove goes.
Hopefully we can keep the ACDelco
Chevrolet up front all day long”
You are
now third in NASCAR Busch Series points.
Is the season evolving like you thought it
would?
“I am real
proud of the fact that even though we
haven’t run up to our ability, we have
managed to score points with good
finishes. I think that is a sign of how
good everyone is at Richard Childress
Racing. I can’t thank Richard and Judy
Childress enough for allowing me to drive
for them.
“This has been a strange
year in a way. I thought at the beginning
of the season that by this race we would
have either won a race or challenged for
the win, and we really hadn’t challenged
until last week at Talladega. But I think
that we have really improved from a team
standpoint every race and I feel like we
are getting closer to our goal, which is
running in the top-five and winning
races.” |
