Despite not testing at all
during the first nine races,
Hornaday changed that pattern
for the race in Richmond, VA.
Hornaday participated in a
two-day test at RIR on April
15-16 and was one of the
fastest Busch Series cars in
attendance. The ACDelco team
tested both a standard chassis
and a drop-snout car. Both
seemed to perform extremely
well, which promoted the team
to test the “drop” car at
Caraway Speedway in Asheboro,
N.C. on April 29. Based on
the testing results from those
two tracks, Hornaday has
elected to run the standard
car, chassis 028 on Friday
night. It is the first time
that the ACDelco/RCR team has
run the car this year.

What’s the key to running well
at Richmond International
Raceway?
“The biggest key is getting
off the corners. In the past,
I think I have driven the
corners too deep. When you do
that, you have to get hard on
the brakes to get the car to
set and it hurts you getting
off. I have since tried to
get in easy, so I can use all
of the RCR motor off. It
works well in practice and
testing, but once you start
racing and you’re in traffic,
you do what you need to do to
get the position.”
Do you enjoy night racing?
“I love night
racing. I’d say every driver
prefers to race at night,
because that is what we grew
up doing. It just looks so
much different and it really
adds something for the fans.
The flames and sparks are very
visible. My favorite part is
on the pace laps when the
flash bulbs are going off.
From where I’m at in the car,
it’s an awesome sight!” |
