said Hornaday. He finished
the race one lap down to the winner, David Green.
“Juke Box Hero”
So far in 2003, Hornaday’s
attempts at winning a guitar have been squandered. He
failed to capture the Gibson guitar at Nashville
Superspeedway in April and then just missed a Taylor
guitar for winning the pole at Nazareth (PA) Speedway,
where he qualified third. The guitar trophy has become an
important goal in Hornaday’s career. Hornaday’s daughter
Amanda (17), a talented pianist, has picked up playing
guitar and nothing would make him more happy than having a
trophy the whole family could enjoy. “I have never wanted
to win a trophy more in my racing career,” said Hornaday.
“I really want the Sam Bass (designed) guitar!”
“Here he comes…Eyes on him”
The ACDelco Chevrolet has
really improved the qualifying efforts over the last six
races. After just three top-10 starts in the first eight
races, Hornaday has now qualified in the top-10, six
consecutive times. The last time the team qualified
outside the top-10 was at Nashville Superspeedway in
April, where he qualified 14th.

This weekend’s Nashville
300 marks Hornaday’s 97th start in the NASCAR
Busch Series. Hornaday is scheduled to make his 100th
start July 4th, 2003, at Daytona International
Speedway.

Hornaday on Nashville Superspeedway
What has the ACDelco
team done differently for the return trip to Nashville
Superspeedway?
“We are bringing a
different car that I know will be a lot better on race
day. We really have learned a great deal since that
race. I think Rick (Viers) and the guys have learned my
driving style now and so the setups we put under the car
really suit my style. This is a much better race team
coming to Nashville. On a scale of one to ten, last April
we were a six. This time I think we are a nine. We
aren’t quite a ten yet, but I think we are very close.
And I owe it all to the guys on this ACDelco team. They
have been working their guts out and it is really paying
off.”
