Getting back on track - After a
devastating 28th place finish at
Michigan International Speedway
last week, Ron Hornaday and the
ACDelco Chevrolet got back to
work early Monday morning to
plan for this Friday night's
race at Bristol Motor Speedway
(BMS). Hornaday spent the week
at RCR working with crew chief
Rick Viers on what they would
need for the race.
Night moves - While the night
race at Bristol Motor Speedway
is one of the NASCAR Busch
Series most exciting races of
the year, it hasn't been one of
Hornaday's best races. In his
three previous NBS attempts at
BMS, Hornaday has an average
finish of 18th, with his best
finish being a 12th in 2002.
However, those results are much
better than his same results at
the Bristol day race. Hornaday
scored a 12th place finish at
Bristol in the spring day race
earlier this year. He was
battling Kasey Kahne late in the
race for a top-five, when Kahne
got loose off turn four
collecting the ACDelco
Chevrolet. Hornaday limped the
No. 2 ACDelco Monte Carlo home
with significant front-end
damage.
Born to be Wild - Hornaday will
be participating in a motorcycle
ride to Bristol set
up by Craftsman representative
Rick Gamble. Hornaday has been
a fixture on the ride since his
days in the NASCAR Truck
Series. The ride will kick off
in Statesville, NC and make it's
way through the Blue Ridge
Mountains into Bristol Motor
Speedway. Hornaday, an avid
Motorcycle rider, attended the
61st annual Sturgis Motorcycle
Rally in South Dakota two weeks
ago.
Hornaday's crew chief, Rick
Viers, will also be displaying
his motorcycle talent, but on a
different track. Viers will be
competing in the 35 and over
class at Lexington Motorcross in
Lexington, NC on Sunday. Viers
races a CR 250 Honda and is the
defending champion of the event.
Ron Hornaday and the ACDelco
Chevrolet Monte Carlo are fourth
in the NASCAR
Busch Series point's standings.
Hornaday is 134 points out of
first place.
