When Ron Hornaday
Jr. announced the birth of his first Grandson
(Slater Ryan McCray), he was quoted saying -
"This is great, I told Lindy to get out and shop
for her Granddaughters now, cause I have a
Grandson and now it's Pappy's turn to do the
spoiling. To start, I think I will go order his
new Go-Kart!"
Well, Ron
followed through and on Slater |
|
Ryan's first
birthday, he received his first racing machine.
The bright red Slater Bug Racing #1 Kart was
unveiled and the start of a new generation was
under-way !
The start of this
Racing Family, Mr. Ron Hornaday Sr. ( l ), is a
NASCAR Winston West Champion and supports his
family for following his footsteps. The next is
Ron Hornaday Jr. ( ll ), A Two Time NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series Champion. "I grew up at
Saugus Speedway as my dad was racing against
Bill Foster, who became my father-in-law." Next
to grab the wheel is the one they call "Three",
Ronnie Hornaday ( lll ). Ronnie took "Rookie Of
The Year" honors at Kern County Raceway before
moving back east to be with his family. Who
would be next is, none other than Ron Jr's
daughter Candice. Candice chose a different
course, I mean completely different ! Candice
got behind the wheel of a racecar, but not a
stockcar, she ran Mini-Dragsters at L.A.C.R. in
Palmdale. Candice is the Mother of the next to
take the wheel in the Hornaday Legacy, Slater
Ryan McCray. The one year old still loves being
a kid, but has that "Look" in his eyes when
behind the wheel of his racing machine!
For those who are
fortunate enough to know this family knows the
support they all have for each-other. At the
track, or at their home, The Hornaday's are
friendly fun-loving people with golden hearts.
The "Open Door" policy of Ron Jr. and his wife
Lindy has seen the likes of Lance Hooper, Kevin
Harvick and Jimmie Johnson. Support for others,
and support for each other only shows that the
Hornaday's are a "True Racing Family!"
This coming 2003
season, Ron Hornaday Jr. will take the wheel of
the Richard Childress Racing #2 ACDelco Busch
Series Chevrolet.
“This is a chance of a lifetime,”
commented Hornaday. “Richard’s been such a help
to me over the years, and got my relationship
with Dale and Teresa Earnhardt off the ground
when I was just starting in this business. His
Busch program is second to none as far as I’m
concerned, and I’m tickled to death to get the
chance to work for him and a sponsor like
ACDelco.”
Ronnie lll is
working on a few deals and hope to have some
announcements soon. What is next for Slater Bug
Racing? Slater was unavailable for comment at
press time, he was in a meeting with his PR
reps. Victoria and Lacey. (they were really
playing in the sandbox)....
