January, 2003 -
Ron Hornaday has had his share of up's and
down's, this time last year, he found himself
with-out a ride.
The start of
the 2002 season was rough, but Hornaday was
determined to hit Daytona. He did so in the
Craftsman Truck Series, flying the rival #24
in a truck owned by Hendrick Motorsports. "I
have to thank Rick Hendrick for what he did
for me last year. stated |
|
Hornaday. "I had
no ride, so we pulled out one of their trucks,
slapped the 24 on it and went racin'. It was
great to back in a truck, but I love these
cars NASCAR has today."
The Hendrick
Motorsports Team called on Hornaday again when
Ricky Hendrick was injured in a crash at the
Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Ron took the wheel
of the #5 G.M.A.C. Busch Series entry for six
events. Yet, Hornaday still had no ride for
the remainder of the season.
After being
ride-less for one week, the 2000 Busch Series
Most Popular Driver, found just what the Dr
ordered as he took the wheel of the #26
Carroll Racing / Dr Pepper Chevrolet Monte
Carlo. In only his third time out in the
Carroll Racing Chevrolet, Ron Hornaday showed
that Dr Pepper can start up front, as he
earned the pole at Lowe's Motor Speedway, in
Charlotte NC. "I want to thank Dave Carroll
and Todd Lohse for a great season. They
picked me up when I was down." stated
Hornaday. "They gave me the chance to run in
some top equipment and keep me on the track."
Now, it's time
to go racin' again and Hornaday is sitting in
the #2 RCR / ACDelco Chevrolet and will make
his RCR debut at Daytona. "I have two years
with the best team on the track." commented
Hornaday. " Richard and I have known each
other for years and it's great to be back in
his presents. When I ran for Dale Earnhardt,
the Childress team and the newly formed DEI
team were very close, so I feel I am back
home, sort of speak."
Hornaday, known
as a "Fans Racer", finds himself sitting at
the trackside trailer for hours signing
autographs for fans young and old. "The fans
are important to me, always have been and
always will be." said Hornaday, who will make
an appearance at the Busch Series Preview in
Charlotte, NC. "I can't wait to see the fans.
After the long holiday break and testing the
RCR cup cars in Arizona, it will be great to
see the faces of the fans. With out them,
what would drivers be !" Hornaday continued,
"With the website (ronhornaday.com) being so
active, I try to stop by and do live chats
when ever my schedule allows. Tony Rizzuti and
Scott Lynch will be working together this
season to provide the best for the fans, so
keep an eye on the website."
Hornaday will
head to Daytona to test the ACDelco #2
January 23rd and 24th (Jan. 25 rain date).
