Ron Hornaday and the ACDelco Chevrolet head into
Kentucky Speedway looking for back-to-back
top-five finishes for the first time in 2004.
Hornaday finished fifth at Nashville Superspeedway
last weekend and is coming off a third place
finish at Kentucky last year. Hornaday feels like
this is one of his better tracks on the schedule,
but he has had a disappointing race. In 2002, he
was running in the top-five in Dave Carroll’s
Chevrolet when the motor expired. He finished
37th.
EXTRA SPECIAL FATHER’S DAY
Sunday, June 20 is Father’s Day around the world.
And it is also Ron Hornaday’s birthday. The
two-time NASCAR Truck Series Champion plans a
relaxing day with family and friends at his home
on Lake Norman in Mooresville, N.C. Happy
Birthday Ron! Happy Father’s day to two-time
NASCAR West Series champion Ron Hornaday, Sr.
The
ACDelco transporter will unload chassis No. 29.
It is the same car that Hornaday raced to a fifth
place finish at Nashville Superspeedway last
week. Besides Nashville, Hornaday has raced
chassis No. 29 at Gateway International Raceway
(2nd) and Nazareth Speedway (11th).

Ron Hornaday on Kentucky Speedway
Coming off a top-five run at Nashville
Superspeedway, do you feel like this team has more
confidence and momentum this week?
“I think this ACDelco team has been
getting better and better each race. We have
really started to gel with each other. Butch (Hylton)
and all the guys are really trying everything and
there are no bad ideas when we have meetings.
Everybody on this team has a say in what might
work and that openness has led to some great
runs. I think we have a great chance at winning
this week. I say that every week, but even at
Nashville last week, we were thinking about things
that would work at Kentucky as well.”
What is the key to racing at Kentucky Speedway?
“You have to have a good fast race car. That
sounds simple, but that’s the way it is. There
are a number of things that need to happen to get
a top-five finish. You need a strong motor. You
need a good shock combination that gets the car
down into the track. You need a good spring
package to get the car to be stable getting into
the corner, but still turn in the middle and off.
You need a fast pit crew that can get you out in
less than 16-seconds. And you have to use your
head. By that I mean catching the lapped cars
where it benefits you. You need to remember who
you can race hard and who you can’t. It takes all
those things to have a good race week in and week
out.” |
