Hornaday Looking to Repeat in Kentucky:
In 2006, Ron Hornaday and the No. 33 team went to victory lane at the Kentucky Speedway. Hornaday has two previous starts at the D-shaped oval in the NASCAR Truck Series. He has led 47 laps, and earned one top-five and one top-10 finish at the 1.5
It’s all About Turn Three:
To win at the Kentucky Speedway you need to have mastered turn three. “The driver that can get into turn three and then get back to the gas is going to win the race,” commented crew chief Rick Ren.
Chassis No. 14:
Rick Ren is taking Chassis No. 014 to the Kentucky Speedway. When asked why, Ren stated, “Because it runs really well every where it goes.” Chassis No. 014 has led 216 laps in six starts so far this season, finishing 2nd in California , 11th in Atlanta ( Ga. ), 6th in Kansas, 4th in Texas and 10th in Michigan. Ron Hornaday then drove the truck to victory lane in his first career win at Lowe’s (N.C.) Motor Speedway.
Camping World Team Riding the Momentum:
The No. 33 Camping World team is riding a huge wave of success and momentum, but definitely not resting on their laurels. In 12 races this season, Hornaday has only finished outside the top 10, in Atlanta ( Ga. ) where the truck finished in 11th place. He is currently second in the point standings with 1940 points, 103 points out of first.
Ron Hornaday Quotes:
“ Kentucky is a great track for me. There is just something about it that I really like. I won last year, and I am ready to go back there and do it again.
“The win at Kentucky last year was very special. It really signified a turn around in our program. To beat my competitors in that race was huge. It helped change our outlook and our program.”
Rick Ren Quotes:
“ Kentucky is all about being able to negotiate turn three. Besides that, you just need to run the bottom of the track.
“All of the Cup drivers go to Kentucky to test. It is the only 1.5-mile track that is similar to the tracks on their schedule that they don’t race at. Drivers like this track because it has banking, but I like this track because you can also test your aerodynamic packages there.”
