Ron Hornaday Phoenix Chevy Race Report

Qualified 9th, Finished 2nd

"First of all I have to thank Jason Leffler and Mike Bliss. They raced me hard. We both drove it in there, I got loose and he got back by me, he knew it was going to happen but he wanted he wanted a chance at the No. 51. It was a good night for this Camping World Chevrolet. That is all we can do, we just have to go out there and run hard. I hope I didn't mess up Bliss but I needed the points."

"Mike (Bliss) gets the money but I get the points cause I raced him hard on the last lap. The guys did an awesome job in the pits to get us back up there and get us track position. Bliss stayed out there on tires. Oh heck, I ran in to him again off of two, I forgot about that one, guess I got him a little loose."

"It was a hard fought race all night. The guy that had track position had the air. Bliss' truck was really fast on long runs. It took him three of four laps to get going. I got my tires hot the last couple laps and got a roll underneath him, actually on the outside one time, he pinched me a little bit and I did a slingshot and got underneath him. Got a little bit together in three and four. Next restart did it again, I got loose and got in to him. We kinds of stayed hooked up. Other than that, uneventful. We gained a few points. Saw Skinner out there, I did all I could to get my five bonus points. I tried to lead the most laps. Track position was everything tonight. A lot of guys took two rather than four, then when Busch beat us out of the pits, or got around traffic faster than we did, we couldn't do anything with him."

ON NOW 29 POINT DIFFERENCE: "Cool. It is another race for us at Homestead. That is all we can do, is keep doing what we are doing and racing hard. I think I got in to Bliss a little bit on the right side on the last lap. Rick Ren and all the guys on this Camping World Chevrolet, man, when you can have something this fast, this is fun. We are doing everything we can. We are brining the truck we wrecked in Texas. They went home and fixed it, put a new horn on it and everything. It is a pretty good piece. Some of the guys got it at the wind tunnel right now."

"I have a team that never says die and they work their guts out to figure out my favorite trucks and they have been bringing them back.  We are going to do everything we have to do, run like we did and hopefully Skinner has problem in the pits again. I heard the jackman was jacking his kneecaps or something I heard."

ON AN INDIAN LADY HE SAW THIS MORNING:  "We left my sister's house, it is a gated community and as we turned out, there was an Indian lady sitting out there in the sprinkler on the basketball court doing some kind of aerobics and I started laughing at 6:30 this morning. So somebody was doing something for me, I don't know if it was a rain dance or for me to win the race. But we did everything we could. Track position was everything."

"Once again, you guys don't understand. Mike Bliss and I run hard together. His truck was loose and I got underneath him and I about wrecked him, but I didn't but he could have turned me in to the fence and he didn't"

Kevin Harvick, No. 2 Camping World, Qualified 4th, Finished 5th:  "It was a good night for our Camping World Chevrolet.  We got a little tight out there on a pit stop and got stuck back there in traffic, we were a little bit tighter than we had been, just made it that much worse.  We just didn't need to adjust on it like we needed it to. We didn't think the track would get tighter like it did. We put it back like we started and went from there.  Probably should have freed it up a little bit more. We got behind on the pit stop, the pit stop was pathetic. We had to use the truck up to get where we were. We have to make that better for Jack (Sprague) next year. I got his first truck here, he will like this one.  He should enjoy driving it. It drove pretty good, we just needed to make one more adjustment."

ON RON HORNADAY PULLING WITHIN 29 POINTS OF LEADER WITH ONE RACE LEFT: "They did a great job. Ron is on. He drove all the way to the end there and got five more points, so that was what he needed to do and it is coming down to Homestead."

ON COMMENTS MADE BY CREW OF ANOTHER COMPETITOR FOLLOWING FIRST ROUND OF PIT STOPS:  "I don't care if they are mad. If they are mad, why don't they get some courage and come over here and show it. I pulled in to my pit stall like I normally do and they were pitted right behind me. I didn't know if the No. 47 was pitting, If they have a problem with it, they need to come over here and quite whining like a bunch of girls."
