Hornaday to replace Kerry Earnhardt at Phoenix

MOORESVILLE, NC—NASCAR Busch Series Veteran Ron Hornaday will pilot the No. 83 RacingUSA.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo fielded by FitzBradshaw Racing in the Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway on November 10, 2002.

Driver Kerry Earnhardt was originally slated to drive the car, but has chosen to put his Winston Cup attempts on hold for the remainder of the year, opting to focus on the rest of his Rookie season in the NASCAR Busch Series. Earnhardt's attempt to drive the No. 83 RacingUSA.com Chevrolet in the EA Sports 500 at Talladega Superspeedway was interrupted by inclement weather that forced drivers to start the race by owner points. Talladega was FitzBradshaw's first attempt in the Winston Cup Series and no owner points had been accumulated.

“FitzBradshaw Racing consistently works with its sponsors to bring as much value to the sponsorship as possible," stated FitzBradshaw Racing Co-Owner Armando Fitz. "Due to inclement weather, we weren’t able to qualify for the Talladega race. We are glad we are able to offer RacingUSA.com the opportunity to take the No. 83 Chevrolet to Phoenix and, with Ron Hornaday in the car, be competitive while allowing Kerry to focus on the remainder of his rookie Busch season.”

“I couldn’t be more supportive of this decision,” Earnhardt said. “Above all else, FitzBradshaw Racing is a team: the crew, the owner, the driver and the sponsors. We constantly work together and I am hopeful that I can be helpful to Ron and the team, so we are all prepared for Phoenix.”

While Hornaday will drive the No. 83 RacingUSA.com Chevrolet at Phoenix International Raceway, Earnhardt will drive the car next year in the Winston Open at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

"We're very excited to have been offered the opportunity to sponsor Ron at Phoenix and Kerry in his first Winston Cup Open at Charlotte next May," stated David Carrington, Racing USA.com's president.  "Ron's experience is just what the doctor ordered."

Hornaday ran his first NASCAR Busch Series race in 1998 and is currently seventeenth in the NASCAR Busch Series points standings for the 2002 season. With NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series wins at Phoenix in 1998 and 1999, Hornaday has proven to be successful at that track.

FitzBradshaw Racing is co-owned by Fitz and Pro Football Hall of Fame member and FOX broadcaster Terry Bradshaw.
