Rockingham
Kmart/Dura Lube 400

Rockingham, NC.  (February 24, 2001)

Team Conseco plans to use 1410 as the primary car for this weekend’s race in Rockingham. This is the same car that qualified 11th and finished 13th last fall at The Rock.

Ron Hornaday likes racing at The Rock. In last year’s Busch Series events he finished third in the spring race and came home 11th in the fall event.

Regarding the new schedule for this weekend in Rockingham:

“I don’t know. It certainly doesn’t leave much room from time delays due to weather or other unforeseen problems. I guess we will have to just wait and see how it all turns out. I’d be willing to bet that this is not the only time NASCAR makes adjustments to the weekend schedule.” –Philippe, Team Conseco Crew Chief

Rockingham, NC.  (February 26, 2001) - Team Conseco driver Ron Hornaday came home in the 25th position in the Kmart/Dura Lube 400 in Rockingham, North Carolina following a rain delay that suspended racing for almost a full 24 hours.

After suffering through multiple rain showers on Sunday afternoon, NASCAR officials made the decision to red flag the race just 51 laps into the event.  On Monday morning, the skies cleared and racing resumed.

Hornaday, who started the event in the 28th position, ran in the top 20 all afternoon.  With 33 laps to go, Hornaday made his final pit stop, exiting pit road in 27th position.  Before the race was over, Hornaday had moved into 25th.

“We were pretty good all day, we just needed to be a little bit better on long runs,” Hornaday said after the race was over.  “I felt I could run with almost anybody at the beginning of a run.

We had that one bad set of tires there at the end that hurt us a bit.  But we had a strong car all day long.”

Fox Sports Network will air the UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400 live on Sunday, March 4, 2001 in Las Vegas with coverage starting at 2:30p.m. E.S.T.
