Hornaday Looking Forward to Bristol
G.M.A.C. Pre-Race Report
BRISTOL, TN. (March 18, 2002) - Most drivers are intimidated by the high-speed bullring known at Bristol Motor Speedway. Ron Hornaday, Jr. isn't one of them having scored two dominating NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events at "Thunder Valley" On Saturday, Hornaday will try

to score his first-ever NASCAR Busch Series win at Bristol when he steers the No. 5 GMAC Financial Services Chevy into battle in the Channelock 250.

"Bristol is my absolute favorite track, " said Hornaday. "That is my kind of racing. I have a lot of fun at Bristol and I think we'll put some good shocks on the GMAC Chevy and go get them. I am here to do a job and Bristol is just the place for me to get Team GMAC's first win of the season. Back-to-back victories and a qualifying record in the past at Bristol in the Truck Series make me feel pretty confident heading there again." Hornaday, a two-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, piloted a Dale Earnhardt-owned entry to pole positions and wins in the 1997 and 1998 Loadhandler 200 NCTS events at BMS. Now subbing for Ricky Hendrick while the young driver mends from a shoulder injury, Hornaday's red-white and blue GMAC Chevy will take on all comers in the Busch Series including former rival now turned Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Jack Sprague. "I've had some great battles with Jack at Bristol Motor Speedway and just about every other track," said Hornaday. "It will be funny going back there with him as my teammate. I never thought I would see this day. This time we'll try to help each other if we can." Hornaday, a Palmdale, CA native, rolled to a steady 15th-place performance in his first race for the team last week at Darlington (SC) Raceway. According to Team GMAC crew chief, Lance McGrew, the team is getting used to working with the veteran Hornaday instead of the young Hendrick.

"Ron and I are still adjusting to each other, " said McGrew. "We learned a lot at our first race together in Darlington. Ron is wide open all the time and we are going to have to tailor our setups to him. Ron and Ricky have totally different driving styles, but Ron and Jack drive almost exactly the same way. It is a real advantage having the two-car team with Jack and Dennis Connor (Sprague's crew chief) helping a lot with the setups. We are working hard to give Ron what he needs on the track."

Hornaday will take a second turn in the GMAC Chevy when they drop the green flag on the Channellock 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway, Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The event will be the fifth of 34 NASCAR Busch Series races this season and will be telecast live on FX. MRN Radio will also broadcast the race live on more than 300 affiliated stations worldwide.
