Team
Conseco plans to use 1402 as the primary car for this
weekend’s race in Las Vegas. This is one of the chassis used
at flat race tracks such as Vegas, Martinsville, Richmond and
Homestead. The team rebuilt this car from the ground up over the
winter months. This chassis raced last year at the fall
Martinsville event.
Since
Las Vegas Motor Speedway first opened in 1996, Ron Hornaday has
competed in three of NASCAR’s top series; Winston West,
Craftsman Trucks and Busch. In six starts at the 1.5-mile
facility, Hornaday has never finished outside the top 10.
“I can’t tell you how much I am looking
forward to racing at Vegas.
I love that place. Years ago I used to race out there at Craig
Road Speedway. I’ve been racing at the Las Vegas Speedway ever
since it was built. It’s Ron Hornaday’s kind of racetrack.
That track has been real good to me. I don’t think I have ever
finished outside the top 10 in a race at Vegas.” –Ron
Hornaday, Team Conseco Driver
Las Vegas, NV. (March 4, 2001) - In his third start
behind the wheel of the No. 14 Conseco Pontiac, Ron Hornaday
scored his first top 10-finish as a Winston Cup Series driver,
crossing the finish line in the ninth spot in Sunday's UAW-Daimler
Chrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
For the final three laps of the race, Hornaday had to hold off a
hard charging Jimmy Spencer to maintain his position in the top
10.
"Boy that was exciting wasn't it?" Hornaday said to
reporters after the race. "We had a really good car all
day. Philippe kept making air pressure adjustments during the
day and the Conseco Pontiac responded to every one of them. We
just kept getting better and better all day long. The Team
Conseco pit crew did their part on pit road to keep us up front
all day. It was a total team effort."
Fox Sports Network will air the Cracker Barrel 500 NASCAR
Winston Cup event live on Sunday, March 11, 2001 in Hampton, GA
with coverage starting at 1:0p.m. E.S.T.
