“Its fun to go back to
California and race. I get to spend time with
friends and family that I don’t get to see as
often as I’d like. It gives Lindy and me a
chance to catch up with everybody. That and the
racing is great too.”

Fontana, CA (April 29, 2001) - Team Conseco driver Ron
Hornaday returned to California to race in front of his home
crowd in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series event held at the
California Speedway this past Sunday.
Hornaday spent as much time with the media as he did in the No.
14 Conseco Pontiac as media from all over California wanted to
spend time with this hometown hero. But the victory so many of
his fans wanted to see on Sunday will have to wait for another
race as Hornaday and Team Conseco battled the competition and a
loose racecar for most of the afternoon, eventually finishing a
disappointing 34th.
"I really wanted to win today," Hornaday told the
media as he climbed from the Conseco Pontiac after the race was
over. "I have so many fans here that were behind me. I got
the biggest cheer I have ever received during driver
introductions and that made me feel great. To know that all
those people wanted to see us run well was great. I just wish we
could have been up front at the end. We just couldn't get up
there to run with the leaders. We could run as fast as they were
at times, but it just wasn't enough. We'll have to try again
next week at Richmond."
FOX will air the Pontiac Excitement 400 from Richmond, Virginia
live on Saturday, May 5, with television coverage starting at
7:00PM E.D.T.
