Ron struggles to finish in the K-Mart 400Kmart 400Michigan - Ron started the Conseco Pontiac 27th in the K-Mart 400 this past Sunday. Early in the race Ron radioed in his feeling of a gear problem. No real power off of the corners to give him what he needed to race down the straight-aways at Michigan International Speedway. After Team Conseco work their pit-strategy, Ron was able to run in the top 20 for most of the race. With just several laps to go, the AJ Foyt Racing owned Pontiac lost a cylinder and Ron was able to place 32nd. Ron feels "they made the best of a bad thing".

Notes & Quotes “Some people say Michigan is a horsepower track, others argue that it is a handling track. I think it’s both. You have to have the horsepower to pull the car off the corner and keep pulling down the straights, and you have to have your car handling well to be able to run through the corners and maintain the speed all the way around the track. The teams with the best overall package on Sunday will be up front, everybody else will be chasing them.” –Ron Hornaday, Team Conseco Driver Team Conseco will use chassis 1410 this weekend in the Kmart 400 at Michigan International Speedway. This is the same car that finished 12th at Darlington and 13th at Rockingham last fall. The car has had a new front clip installed after getting damaged at Darlington this past March.
