Transmission problems hold up a good car

Pocono 500

June 17th. Transmission problems brought the Team Conseco Pontiac in-to the pits in the early laps of the Pocono 500. After starting 35th, Ron reported a vibration in the AJ Foyt racing #14 and came in-to the pits on lap 47. The hard working Team Conseco crew went to work to change the drive shaft. The decision was made to take the car to the garage and change the transmission and with-in 23 laps Ron and The Conseco Pontiac were back on the track.

Running consistently after the change, Ron kept the AJ Foyt #14 out of trouble to finish 35th, 24 laps down.

"The car was running great after we came back out", Ron said, "I had fun the last few laps, I can’t wait until we go back".

Notes & Quotes

“I have been looking forward to going to Pocono all year.  I’ve never been to the place, but I was in the same situation last year at Nazareth and that worked out pretty good.  From everything I’ve heard, it’s a track that favors road-course drivers, so at least I’ve got that going for me.”  –Ron Hornaday

Team Conseco will use chassis 1402 this weekend in the Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway.  This is the same car that Hornaday drove to a ninth-place finish in the UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March.

When Ron Hornaday arrives at the 2.5-mile, triangle-shaped Pocono Raceway on Friday, it will be the first time this season that the 42-year old Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year candidate will visit a track he has never seen in his NASCAR career.  Last season, Hornaday won in his first outing at the Nazareth Speedway.
