Dodge/Save Mart 350

Top 20 at Sears Point

June 24th - After starting 43rd, Ron had the #14 AJ Foyt Racing Pontiac in the 25th position and on the move. On lap 30 Ron was going in-to turn two and the left front wheel came off the car causing Ron to go in-to the dirt. Minor cosmetic damage was done to the car and the hard working Team Conseco crew made the repairs and had Ron back out on the track. Ron was running in the top 30 most of the race and avoided trouble on the 2 mile road course to finish 18th in the Dodge/Save Mart 350.

June 24th - The hard working Team Conseco crew put a car under Ron that had him 12th quickest during Happy Hour Saturday at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma California. Ron is a California native and no stranger to Sears Point, having won at the track in the South West Series and the Craftsman Truck Series.

"I can drive this track in my sleep" Ron said when speaking of the road course where he made his first Winston Cup start in 1992. Sears Point is not the only road course that has given Ron the expertise of taking turns low and tight.

June 22nd - The Team Conseco Pontiac had a pinched brake line in practice causing Ron to crash in-to the tires and then up on the wall in turn 11. "The car was fast on the straights and strong in the corners, and now were taking out a car that doesn't even have a lap on it, so we'll see what happens" Ron said, just before qualifying.

Ron was scheduled to be the 5th out to qualify, but went out late after an electrical fire in the back up car. Ron ran the #14 Team Conseco Pontiac at 90.66 mph with a time of 79.416. The lap was 39th in time, but the cut-off is 36th. Relying on provisional points,

Notes & Quotes

“Sears Point is finally here. Last week we raced at a track I had only seen on TV, this week we are headed to a track I could drive in my sleep.  This is a race I really think we have a chance to win. We’ve got a good car.  The crew is ready, the driver is ready and I know A.J. is ready.  Now we just have to put it all together in this one weekend.  I think we can do it.”   –Ron
