Hopes
to

Red
in
Victory
Lane |
Denver,
NC
(July
11,
2002)
Ron
Hornaday
and
the
new
Red
Fusion
Dr
Pepper
team
look
towards
Chicago
for
first
win
of
2002.
Hornaday
started
22nd
and
finished
16th
in
last
yearıs
Hills
Bros.
300
at
Chicagoland
Speedway.
"I
know
this
team
is
capable
of
winning.
Weıve
been
close
several
times
this
year
and
knowing
we
are
contenders
every
week
makes
me
even
more
excited," |
 |
stated
Hornaday.
When
talking
about
Chicago,
Hornaday
said,
"Chicago
is a
fun
but
tough
track.
It
only
had
one
racing
groove
last
year.
I
hope
it
will
have
two
grooves
by
the
time
we
race
on
Saturday
because
that
will
make
it
pretty
exciting
for
the
race
fans
up
there."
Hornaday
understands
the
importance
of a
good
starting
spot
and
feels
confident
his
Dr
Pepper
team
will
help
him
yield
another
good
qualifying
effort
this
weekend
in
Chicago.
"Any
time
weıre
able
to
qualify
in
the
top-20
it
adds
confidence
to
the
team.
A
good
starting
spot
is
always
important,
especially
since
the
competition
in
the
Busch
Series
is
so
tough.
The
teamıs
experience
on
1-mile
tracks
will
help
us
qualify
the
Dr
Pepper
Chevrolet
up
front
this
weekend,"
said
Hornaday.
Hornaday
has
entered
8
NASCAR
Busch
Series
events
this
season
with
the
Dr
Pepper
team.
The
teamıs
3rd
place
finish
at
Nazareth
is
their
best
finish
of
the
season.
They
have
posted
2
finishes
in
the
top-5
and
4
finishes
inside
the
top-20.
He
scored
his
first
career
pole
at
Loweıs
Motor
Speedway
in
May.
Hornaday
has
raced
the
Dr
Pepper
Chevrolet
into
the
top-5
in
each
event
he
has
competed
in
except
Nashville,
TN.
His
average
starting
position
with
the
Dr
Pepper
Team
is
16th.
Hornaday
really
does
like
the
1.5-mile
tracks,
and
so
does
the
Dr
Pepper
Chevrolet.
It
is
not
uncommon
in
NASCAR
for
teams
to
name
their
cars.
Hornaday
and
the
team
have
been
waiting
for
a
win
so
they
could
give
their
car
a
name.
Bud
Pole
Qualifying
is
set
to
begin
at
1:30
p.m.
EST.
on
Friday,
July
12th.
The
green
flag
will
wave
at
2:30
p.m.
EST
on
Saturday,
July
13th.
The
event
will
be
