July 21st, 2002 - Ron Hornaday finished 2nd in the "Charter Pipeline 250" Busch Series event at Gateway International Raceway.

Hornaday lead 141 of 200 laps and received the Front Runner Award, bringing the Dr Pepper Team it's season best finish.

After starting on the outside front row, Hornaday lead the first lap, and was un-willing to give it up, until the first round of pit stops.  On lap 76, the Carroll Racing crew was ready for Ron to come in.  Under a green flag, the pressure was on.  The crew had Ron back out and set-in-to the 18th position. After pit stops cycled through, Hornaday and the #26 Chevrolet Monte Carlo regained the lead on lap 92.

Hornaday kept the Dr Pepper machine out front and by lap 150 was hoping for a yellow.  With a yellow not coming out, the second round of pit stops were also under green.  Hornaday found himself in the second position with a lose handling car, and was unable to regain the lead, finishing 2nd.

"I have to thank Dave Carroll and Todd Lohse." stated Hornaday. "These guys believe in me and my style of driving.  This Dr Pepper team has gelled and a win is coming." Hornaday continued, "We have to crawl before we can win one, and this Dr Pepper Chevrolet is ready for victory lane."

Hornaday has been with the Carroll Racing organization for several weeks now and feels the team has the strength that is needed to win in the Busch Grand National Series. "With the support from Dr Pepper, Air Jamaica, and our other sponsor, Dave Carroll has built a strong team, and we'll get'em next time" stated Hornaday.

Ron Hornaday has brought the team's sponsors a lot of media exposure, with radio and television coverage and interviews.  Last week Dr Pepper's new beverage "Red Fusion" was promoted on the #26 Monte Carlo.

While missing several races at the start of the season, Hornaday sits 23rd in driver points.

Hornaday Finished Second for His Best Finish of The Year
"You have to be happy for this whole team," said Hornaday. "You have to finish in the top five before you can win one, but Biffle was tough tonight.

"I was just real loose on that last run up off the corner. We beat them out of the pits the first time. I don't know if I could have held him off because we just started slipping and sliding there at the end."
