June
20th, 2002
- California
native Ron
Hornaday, a
Two Time
NASCAR
Craftsman
Truck Series
Champion,
has gone
from
"Hot
Wheels"
to "Hot
Deals"
!
Hornaday
made his
fame with a
legendary
phone call -
"I got
a call from
Dale
Earnhardt
asking me to
drive his
NASCAR
Truck,"
commented
Hornaday,
"Heck,
I didn't
even think
it was
him." -
Ron drove
for Dale in
the truck
series
bringing 2
championships
to DEI.
Ron also ran
a full
season in
the Busch
Series for
DEI, running
the famed
number
three, while
claming the
"Most
Popular
Driver"
award before
being
released.
Ron
found
himself
without a
job at the
end of 2000,
but with a
phone call
from the
legendary AJ
Foyt, Ron
was living
his dream
and racing
the Winston
Cup Series.
Although the
year wasn't
the best (16
tons of bad
luck), Ron
was where he
wanted to
be, Racing !
At
the
beginning of
2002, Ron
once again
found
himself
without a
ride... Ron
hit Daytona
in the
Biggest
return of
the
Craftsman
Truck
Series.
Hornaday not
only made
the biggest
return the
series ever
saw, but Ron
Hornaday
showed up in
the #24
truck, the
same truck
he raced for
two titles
against.
What an
awesome
surprise,
Ron Hornaday
and Hendrick
Motorsports.
Rivals from
what the
fans knew,
but when it
comes down
to racing
Ron and Rick
know what
it's all
about,
Racing !
A
relationship
was formed
with Rick
Hendrick's
son Ricky.
Ron and
Ricky have
been friends
for longer
then most
would think.
"Ron
and I have
hung out at
the tracks,
sure, but he
and I are
close off
the track
as-well."
commented
Ricky
Hendrick.
Ricky
crashed at
the Las
Vegas Motor
Speedway and
suffered a
shoulder
injury that
required
surgery.
When a
substitute
driver was
needed at
Hendrick
Motorsports
for the #5
GMAC Busch
Series
Chevrolet,
Ron Hornaday
was the one
who got the
call.
Ron has
received
"The
Call"
from the top
names in
NASCAR...
Dale
Earnhardt
(DEI), AJ
Foyt (Foyt
Racing), and
Rick
Hendrick
(Hendrick
Motorsports)...
Wow, what a
ride !
Ron
is now
driving in
the Busch
Series for
the Dr
Pepper
Racing Team
with Car
owner Dave
Carroll.
Ron has been
in the #26
Chevrolet
Monte Carlo
for the past
6 events
with great
results.
"We
have had our
share of bad
luck, but
this team is
strong."
stated
Hornaday,
who one his
first Busch
Series Bud
Pole Award
with the Dr
Pepper Team.
Flash
Back -
I
remember
when I was a
little kid
(ok,
younger),
and I
watched Ron
race at
Saugus
Speedway.
Boy those
were the
days !
Saturday
Night Stock
Car Auto
Racing at
it's best !
Thanks Ron
Hornaday Sr.
and
Jr........
